Generation Gap

Ruth tells me that she just cant’ leap the Generation gap she shares with her daughter and it’s getting on her nerves. She thinks that her daughter is a complete stranger and she doesn’t understand her anymore. Other people around us agreed on what she was saying.

I for my part was quiet because I think “Generation gap” is overrated. I think that failure to understand parent’s perspective and vice-versa is the most natural thing that happens with everyone. There is no gap. Parents have gone through the same process and have matured and now it’s children turn. It’s not like parents can’t understand but it’s just that they don’t approve.

When I listen to the stories of my parent’s childhood, I’m elated at the similarities we share. They were like me; strong headed, quick tempered and naughty. They were difficult for their parents and have quite a lot of mischievous incidents in their bags. But these only sounds like stories because I can’t imagine them doing things like that. Because then they would understand why I do what I do.

But as I said they have gone though the maturing process and now they know the implications of things they did and don’t want history to be repeated . I’m now somewhere in the middle of that process. Things I used to like, and my parents used to despise, are starting to irritate me too. I look 5 years back and think,”Was I really that stupid?”.  I’m starting to understand their perspective and for next generation I might be creating the ‘Gap’ with that understanding.

As a child , you have to go through this process, simple or hard way, and as a parent, you can just try to make that process smooth. Ultimately as some wise man said, “You can try to guide people, but you can’t change their destiny”. So stop worrying about this gap too much, it’s natural , run its course and ultimately finishes and waits for another wave.

I am Diverse

Though Diverse always points me to the diversity in countries, in the culture, in the nature. But today, I want to look inside me. I’m the creation of God and like all his things, I myself is diverse.

I remember from childhood, I was stereotyped. My relative would introduce me as a shy, introvert, studious, book-worm. For a while , I thought I’m like that. But then I realized I’m not. Even I don’t know what kind of a person I’m. Someday I’m introvert, someday extrovert. Some day I will study like that’s the only thing I came on earth to do, other day I’ll sky-dive or trek and talk to strangers like I’m doing it always. Sometimes I’ll think horror is the best genre in movies, other days I’ll disgust myself with anything horror. Weeks over weeks i’ll spend lazying around home, then I’ll have a fit to occupy each and every week with some crazy activity. I’ll dance… I’ll write… I’ll read…I’ll paint.. I’ll sing.. I’ll binge watch tv…I’ll be a gym freak…i’ll trek..i’ll rock climb…i’ll swim…i’ll race..i’ll drive….phew…and then I just may sleep.

Like each diverse day, I’ll be Diverse. You can’t predict me because unpredictable is nature and I’m nature’s most beautiful creation. 🙂

Prompted by- Chaos

Off late there is a buzz going around in office about a project that has gone haywire. Observer of this story doesn’t know the particulars but he knows its a bad news. Rumors are that client has escalated this to highest level, they are way past deadlines and nobody knows what needs to be done. It’s in the bucket of Mr. A. However, except Mr.A everyone is worried. ‘A’ has a very cool character. No one has ever seen him agitated and he is considered very good in what he does. Observer has a great respect for him.

But then, Mr. A is super busy and even after constant rebuking from manager he didn’t get the time to finish this problem off. So, Manager decides to assign it to someone else. Everyone is horrified, no-one wants to get into beehive. Finally one has fallen prey and poor soul is struggling now. This new entry,  Miss B in the story, asks Mr.A for help since ‘A’ is the only one who knows anything about it. But to no avail. What Mr. A has explained is so chaotic that it seems impossible to implement it. Design Mr.A has created is beyond everyone’s reasoning. He himself admitted that he designed while he was drunk. There was a lot of pressure to finish design, he didn’t know much , so during an inebriated state, he created design and submitted it. And since it was so late, no-one bothered to look at design and hurriedly moved to next phase of implementation. And now, here we are.

Miss B is under duress, she doesn’t know what to do, it’s a critical project, so everyday 2 hours status meeting is a constant pain for her. She doesn’t have anything to show what she is doing since she doesn’t know what to do. She can’t even explain to manager what Mr.A has done which is ‘nothing’. Manager mutters some word regarding women doesn’t know a thing and then literally begs Mr.A to come for rescue operation.

Mr.A comes as a Hero, quit everything and immersed himself in finishing this challenge and in 2 days submits and comes as victorious. Everyone is praising him, people are admiring him, client is sending appreciation mail since he has finally seen final product, Miss B is standing in corner trying to get away from the stage of failure. Manager is proudly saying that if anybody could do it , it was Mr.A. Mr.A is gathering all these praises like a gentleman with a smile.

And observer is observing as usual. It was Mr.A who has created this mess, then got away with it for a while, and when other’s couldn’t clean his mess, he came again and cleaned it. And did it successfully and crowd goes wild. Observer respect for Mr.A is tenfold now since Mr.A has recognized the power of chaos and learnt to use it for his own benefit. He knows that chaos is the new standard!!

Note- Pardon me for creating such a chaotic story, but I couldn’t resist after looking at prompt 😉

I'm part of Post A Day 2016

This would be my first response to one-word prompt , which is “Stroll” today. Though I know the meaning of Stroll, I thought to check it online anyways. First few meanings were obvious, taking a walk.. leisurely short walk. Then there was something I didn’t know, that this word originated from German language and during 17th century , it meant in the sense of vagabond roaming. Now that’s an amusing thought.

All this while I was taking a stroll, I was actually roaming as a vagabond. 🙂 But then I find a comforting sense in being a vagabond. Unknown to everyone, slightly mystic, going about my life , all absorbed in me, free from any judgements, free from materialistic world…just…strolling. This is my idea of being a vagabond, may be its different, but sometimes I dream of being like this. Free from any responsibility, just traveling places, observing people and get amused, fetch a book and read it under a tree, then sleep when sun is smiling over you, run to a shelter when rain comes to kiss you, get kissed a little and then watch it shyly from your corner.

I want to stroll over plains, over mountains, in forests, on the road, in the park…list goes on and on. In short, I want to stroll around this world and take it all in and slowly become it. This would take a lot of courage and I’m not ready for it. But I hope to be ready in this lifetime or another.
